Arrive in the vibrant waterside city of Seattle and make your own way to your hotel where you will spend the next two nights. With a magnificent setting with Mount Rainier in the background and set between Puget Sound and Lake Washington, the iconic Space Needle is a great place to start to soak up the breathtaking landscapes. Visit the first ever Starbucks, take in the sounds and smells at lively Pike Place Market or visit Chihuly Gardens and Glass to see its colourful blown glass sculptures.

Pick up your motorhome in the nearby depot of Everett and make your way across Puget Sound for your first stop in the coastal city of Port Angeles which is on the outskirts of the wilderness of Olympic National Park. (Travel to Port Angeles either by catching the 35-minute ferry to Bainbridge Island - ferry crossing not included and can be prebooked via the Washington State Department of Transportation website or take the longer route around the peninsula). There are several roads that take you into the park, we recommend driving up Hurricane Ridge Road for fabulous mountain views and stopping at glacier fed Lake Crescent to see its pristine waters.

Spend the next day exploring the western peninsula of the park, the Pacific coastline, and the Olympic Mountains. Recommended stops are the town of Forks, made famous after the Twilight books and films. Venture on one of the many hiking trails inside the park, explore the rugged coastline of Ruby Beach and Kalaloch before continuing to Quinault for the night. Visit the lake, nearby waterfalls and go in search of wildlife.

Continue south along Highway 101 through rugged forest landscape through the south of the park stopping at the cute beach town of Westport for some tasty seafood, before crossing into Oregon. Arrive at Astoria called ‘The Little San Francisco of the Pacific Northwest’, made famous by the 1980’s film The Goonies. Stroll around the 1920’s downtown area and climb to the top of the historic landmark Column which stands at 125 feet high to get fabulous views of the Columbia River.

Enjoy a memorable drive today as you meander down the rugged Oregon coast through pretty seaside towns and state parks. Recommended stops include the exclusive quaint town of Cannon Beach which is home to nine miles of beach and famous Haystack Rock, one of the most iconic images of Oregon’s coastline. Other worthwhile stops include Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area and Yaquina Lighthouse, before arriving in the artistic town of Newport, known for its seafood heritage. Stroll around the historic bayfront area, enjoy a tasty seafood lunch and if your visit coincides with the autumn and spring months, you may spot a migrating grey whale.

Your journey continues along Highway 101 to Sea Lions Caves where sea lions and their cubs take shelter every year and the quaint waterfront town of Florence. Take a fun buggy ride amongst the sand dunes at Oregon Dunes National Recreational Area, before heading east on the Umpqua River Scenic Byway to the classic river town of Grants Pass. Be prepared to be wowed as you visit the dramatic beauty of Crater Lake National Park the following day, one of the most spectacular lake landscapes in the world and America’s deepest lake.

Head south today taking time to explore the underground Oregon Caves National Monument and then head over the border into California and Redwoods National and State Parks. With thousands of acres of stunning natural beauty, and the world-famous giant Redwood trees, there are several walking and scenic driving trails that bring you up close to nature.

Today drive through Humboldt Redwoods State Park to see the largest remaining forest of virgin redwood trees and drive through the famous Drive-Thru-Tree. Stop for lunch at the former gold rush town of Eureka and then your journey continues along Highway 1, 300-foot-tall redwoods will tower overhead as you drive the 31-mile stretch called the Avenue of Giants. Join Highway 1 at Leggett and drive along the coastline to Manchester Beach where you will spend the night.

Head inland today to wine country through rolling hills to visit some of Sonoma County’s best wineries and boutique vineyards to sample an array of exceptional wines. Stroll around Sonoma’s historic town square or head east to visit stunning Napa Valley to enjoy a gourmet lunch onboard the Napa Valley Wine Train.

Today head to the iconic city of San Francisco and the Marine RV Park which is one of the closest campgrounds to the city. Leave your motorhome behind and venture into the city by boat or public transport for two full days of exploring. Climb aboard one of the authentic cable cars, ride a bike over the Golden Gate Bridge, enjoy seafood and watch the seals at Pier 39 and take the ferry over to world-famous Alcatraz.

Time for last minute sightseeing or shopping before dropping off your motorhome and boarding your return flight to the UK.
